Diversification of protein sources for fodder based on the breeding of insects in organic farms
Description
Technologies of container-based insect production
Sector
A1.5Mixed farming
Needs/ Problem statement
(1) to provide farmers with technologies and equipment allowing them to diversify the sources of protein in their farms. Through the application of solutions proposed in the project, farmers will gain access to a new source of high-quality protein which can be used as a feeding stuff in animal nutrition; (2) an opportunity of biological recycling of plant waste generated on the farm and acquired by farmers from other sources such as fruit and vegetable processing plants, agricultural holdings, or even households.
Objective
The main effect of the project will be the implementation of new technologies of container-based insect production and the resulting products, i.e. insects which are suitable for feed purposes, in agricultural holdings. The implementation will consist in the delivery of automated mobile containers designed for the production of insects supplied by HiProMine to selected agricultural holdings.

Outcomes and final product
The main effect of the project will be the implementation of new technologies of container-based insect production and the resulting products, i.e. insects which are suitable for feed purposes, in agricultural holdings. The implementation will consist in the delivery of automated mobile containers designed for the production of insects supplied by HiProMine to selected agricultural holdings. As a result, farmers will obtain a valuable feed material and an organic fertiliser as an added benefit.

Intended user
mixed farm owners - insects are suitable for feed purposes & farmers will have an opportunity to reduce the cost of insect production by using their own plant waste as feed + obtain organic fertiliser
