Development of an innovative production of straws for various drinks

Description

production of straws for gastronomy from straw (cereal stem)

Sector

A1.6Support activities to agriculture and post-harvest crop activities

Needs/ Problem statement

Disposable plastic straws for drinking beverages have been common in most people\'s daily lives for years. In the EU alone, more than 36 billion straws are consumed on average annually, including 1.2 billion in Poland. Later they go to the bin and landfill, where their disposal takes about 450 years. Currently, in the market of Zero Waste accessories, consumers are looking for products of the highest ecological quality. Straws made of straw are completely natural, biodegradable, and they do not dissolve or soften. However, their production is significantly more expensive than plastic ones. Currently, there are no machines for the mechanized production of straws from straw. The machines available on the market are designed exclusively for the production of paper straws.

Objective

The aim of the operation is to obtain an agricultural product which is straw with improved usability and to create appropriate technical, technological and organizational conditions necessary for the production of straws for drinking various beverages.

Outcomes and final product

a significantly improved form of straw into straws of various lengths and diameters, intended for the drinking of various beverages; a significantly improved production technology of such straws, based on: professional production of selected plants for the purpose of obtaining, above all, high-value straw for their production; proper storage and storage of the straw produced in such a way so as not to lower its value as a semi-finished product for straws for various drinks;

Intended user

Made from straw, using the results of this operation, the straws for beverages will be significantly cheaper than those produced today. They can also be an interesting offer on the market of European countries, where local productions, like in Poland, do not ensure a growing demand for such an environmentally friendly product.
