Needs/ Problem statement

The BioFairNet project tackles greenwashing and digital divides in profit-driven circular economies. It establishes a fair digital network to transform carbon-intensive agriculture and mining. Tested in pilots like Lesvos, Greece, it combines biotechnology with web tools. This approach cuts emissions while securing social justice and local economic viability.

Objective

The BioFairNet project aims to identify and map European carbon-intensive hotspots in intensive agriculture and mining value chains. To drive sustainable transitions, it develops a digital product combining advanced biotechnologies, web tools, and socio-economic strategies. Ultimately, the project\'s core objective is to guarantee social justice and economic viability through fair, inclusive practices and active stakeholder collaboration.

Outcomes and final product

The primary Outcome of the BioFairNet project is a socially just green transition of the agriculture and mining sectors toward circular, bio-based models, which actively bridges regional socio-economic and digital divides by fostering transparent, multi-actor collaboration among local stakeholders. The Final Product delivering this outcome is the BioFairNet Digital Cooperative Network and its integrated \"Green Information Factory\" web-based platform, which provides co-created transition pathways and practical digital tools to successfully navigate and measure sustainability in emerging bio-based value chains.

Intended user

The BioFairNet platform and its integrated \"Green Information Factory\" web tools are intended for use by regional stakeholders—including small-scale farmers, cooperatives, mining sector actors, and local authorities—to map carbon-intensive hotspots and co-create sustainable transition pathways. To support a socially just circular economy, conditions of access prioritize digital fairness, open collaboration, and inclusivity, eliminating traditional barriers to ensure underrepresented and rural communities can freely access and share data without exploitation
