Stabilized litter for dairy cows: optimization of the use of litter derived from the solid fraction separated from manure
Description
Dairy cows manure is processed in a rotating drum separator with increased temperature to reduce the pathogens and the resulting solid fraction manure is used as cow bedding
Sector
A1.6Support activities to agriculture and post-harvest crop activities
Needs/ Problem statement
the impact of stabilized litter obtained from the solid/liquid separation of slurry subjected to a process of sanitation and stabilization in dairy farms taking account of the relevant cost of the purchase and stocking of other litter material such as straw, wood chips or sawdust
Objective
to test if and to which extent this technological solution can be successfully applied to the reality of Parmigiano Reggiano without adversely affecting the quality of housing and of the final product (i.e. milk and cheese)
